Troop 304 Canoe Trip Down the Saco River

The Saco River campout proved to be one of the most popular campouts of the year. Although we didn't hike on this campout, most of those that attended agreed that the paddling provided quite a workout!

Preparing the canoes (208812 bytes) After arriving at the departure point, everybody helped to unload the canoes and get them into the river.
Two in a canoe (192898 bytes) Each canoe held two people plus a lot of camping gear.
2 more in a canoe (214647 bytes) The canoe trip proved popular with the parents too! This trip had the highest adult participation of the year!
The big swing (305111 bytes) At lunch time we stopped off and enjoyed a rope swing that had been left by a prior visitor.
A long ways down (133292 bytes) The Scouts took turns seeing who could swing out and drop the from the highest point. Looks like we got a winner here...
On the dunes (117703 bytes) After paddling for about 6 miles, we pulled up on a sand dune and pitched out tents.
Fog in the morning (129149 bytes) In the morning when we woke up, we were greeted by gorgeous views of fog rising up off the river.
Clowning after breakfast  (223174 bytes) Always time to clown around for a photo!
Picture perfect  (165740 bytes) After the sun came up on the second day, the fogged cleared and we enjoyed terrific colors and reflections off the river.
Finished (264464 bytes) Finally reached the end of the trip around lunch time. Everybody was certainly ready to eat!
