Welcome to Boy Scouts!

The primary purpose of this Family Handbook is to provide new scouts and their families with information about the Boy Scout program of Troop 304 that services Belmont, Massachusetts, and surrounding communities. We hope that prospective and new scouts in Troop 304 will take the time to become familiar with this handbook. Knowing what information is contained in the Family Handbook should make it a useful reference book throughout a scout’s career in Troop 304.

A word to experienced Troop 304 scouts…

We expect that more experienced scouts will find information collected in this Handbook useful to them too. This Handbook documents many of the policies of Troop 304, most of which you will be familiar with, but some policies will probably be unfamiliar to even experience scouts such as yourself. The Appendices should be of particular interest to older scouts as they advance beyond the basics of the Scouting program. You should also look upon this document as a living document that you may need to augment, change, or delete items as the needs of the troop and community changes.

And a word to the parents…

Local Boy Scout troops, such as Troop 304, are organized by volunteers from the parents of scouts as well as the community at large. With today’s busy lifestyle, made busier by organized sports and other community activities, it is difficult to find the time to volunteer. But the rich tradition of the Boy Scouts along with the outdoor emphasis makes our program fun and rewarding for parents that are able to find time to volunteer. As you review this Handbook with your son, please think about a role that you may be able to perform to make the program more rewarding for all Belmont youths.
