TROOP 304 COOL WEATHER CAMPING CHECKLIST

The Boy Scout Motto is "Be Prepared". This is especially true for overnight camping trips regardless of the season. To ensure that every scout is prepared, Troop 304 has established a minimum set of gear for overnight campouts. You can bring additional equipment as long as it is not a safety issue and you can carry it yourself (see pages 51-54 and 213-219 in the Boy Scout Handbook). However, to attend a Troop 304 campout for cooler weather, you MUST have the following equipment:

• Pocketknife
• First aid kit
• Rain gear
• Canteen or water bottle (1 qt minimum)
• Flashlight
• Trail food (optional)
• Matches and fire starters in waterproof container
• Compass
• Watch
• Sunglasses (optional)

• Long underwear
• Insulated parka
• Warm sweater (wool preferred)
• Stocking cap (wool/thinsulate preferred)
• Insulated gloves or mittens
• Hiking boots (2 pair if snow or ice is expected, shin length or better)
• Change of clothing for each day:
  - Long sleeve shirt
  - Long pants (waterproof)
  - Socks
  - Underwear

• Backpack with frame (optional for new scouts)
• Sleeping bag rated for minimum of  20° + F
• Insulated foam sleeping pad
• Mess kit:
• Spoon
• Fork
• Plate and/or Bowl
• Cup
• Cleanup kit:
• Bar of soap
• Toothbrush
• Toothpaste
• Comb
• Washcloth
• Towel

Important: Weight Restriction:

Your fully packed backpack with your share of the patrol and troop equipment should weigh no more than 25% of your weight.
